We are very pleased that -as a start-up company in the fourth year- we were able to continue in 2021 extensive research on non-target screening, to publish, to educate and to organize conferences.
At the same time, the requests for NTS analyses increased significantly from the industrial and analytical sector, so that many interesting new topics could be worked on and questions could be answered in our laboratory in Augsburg.
Research
Fortunately, we were able to establish and further develop new NTS approaches in the two research projects
RIKovery and
bee2diversity in the first year (details can be found
here).
The funding of a strategical partnership by the Westfälische Wasser- und Umweltanalytik GmbH led to a sustainful establishment of NTS in the water analysis using polarity-extended chromatography and a qualification of this concept for routine.
Publications
In 2021 we could publish three peer-reviewed research articles (regarding NTS in water analysis and in plant metabolomics), two review articles (regarding NTS with GC-MS and SFC-MS), two articles in our AFIN-TS Forum and book chapters about ‘Using HILIC’.
Education
In 2021 several (german) certification courses as well as seminars were digitally realized with our cooperation partners Springer Campus (Sekulab and other institutions). The lectures and seminars with the topics LC-MS, Mass Spectrometry, DoE and Polar Molecules were given in a 3 x 3h format in Spring (Wednesday) as well as in Autumn (Mondays) with numerous participants. This succesful format (not only for pandemic times) will be continued for seminars in 2022. If you would like to particpate in an English-spoken seminar don’t hesitate to contact us.
In addition, in 2021, for the first time multi-day in-house training courses were held for Non-Target Screening in several industrial, analytical and regulatory laboratories. Hereby the primary interest was on professional water analysis, but other disciplines are now also opening up to this type of analysis.
We train manufacturer-independent or involve experts of the respective vendor in the establishment; the same is tru for the usage and education in data analysis and statistics.
Conferences
At 4. / 5. Februar we organized for the first time the workshop ‘Gas Chromatography meets Non-Target Screening‘. More than 50 international GC users and vendor representatives met digitally for lectures and panel discussions.
In the period 4.-7. October the ‘International Conference on Non-Target Screening (
ICNTS 21)’ took place for the first time; hybrid, i.e. in Erding b. München and digital. This interdisciplinary event was so successful in this format that the ICNTS 23 (16-19 October 2023) will also take place in a hybrid format.
Ordered NTS Work in the ‘Laboratory Augsburg’
Numerous inquiries from research, from supply and disposal companies, authorities and industry on various questions with answers through non-target screening reached our laboratory in Augsburg and could be carried out and successfully answered.
The advantage of this analysis concept is the reanalysis capability of the recorded data, so that the samples often do not have to be re-analyzed with new input.
Last but not least, with ThermoFisher Scientific we have found a strong partner for our (LC) NTS laboratory with whom we are further developing the field of non-target screening technologically as well as in an interdisciplinary way in terms of evaluation.
